Mushrooming has been officially recognized as a national value of Latvia. It is included in the National Intangible Cultural Heritage list in 2023, reflecting the country’s deep connection with nature. For Latvians, mushrooms are not just a delicacy; they are an integral part of our culture and identity. The art of mushroom picking runs deep in our roots, and it’s more than just a search for food—it’s a cherished tradition, a form of recreation, and even a ritual that brings us closer to nature. Mushrooming Tour ( 3-4 hours)
Weather conditions influence the mushrooming season. So always contact your guide in advance. Sometimes mushrooming starts in August, other years in September and is possible until October. Mushroom picking takes place near Riga, depending on the mushroom locations in the given period. 30-50 minutes drive from several places. Along the way, the guide introduces ancient species, collection traditions and cooking. After picking mushrooms, we read and check the edible mushrooms. Riga Pine forests are safe from ticks.
